Pelion is a small rural town of approximately 630 residents in southwestern Lexington County, known for its annual Peanut Party festival. Despite its small size, the surrounding area’s rural highways carry traffic at speeds that create serious accident risks. In May 2024, a fatal crash at the intersection of US-178 and D.E. Clark Road just outside Pelion killed one person and injured three others — a reminder that serious accidents happen on rural roads throughout Lexington County.
